Jodie Chesney latest: 15-year-old charged with murdering teenager in playground

A 15-year-old boy has become the second person charged with murdering teenager Jodie Chesney.

The teenager, who cannot be named due to his age, will appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Twenty-year-old Manuel Petrovic, from Romford, will also appear at the Old Bailey today after he was charged over the weekend.

Police said they also made four other arrests on Sunday. An 18-year-old is being held on suspicion of murder and a 50-year-old man and 38-year-old woman, both from Dagenham, east London, and a 17-year-old boy, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Jodie, 17, died after she was stabbed as she listened to music with friends in a playground in Harold Hill on March 1.

Her death sparked a national outcry over the spate of killings and knife crime this year.

The Metropolitan police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about Jodie’s death to call Homicide and Major Crime Command’s Incident Room on 020 8345 3775 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
