Keith Flint death: Prodigy legend famed for Firestarter dies aged 49 as tributes pour in

The Prodigy frontman Keith Flint has died at the age of 49.

The singer was found dead at his home today, Essex Police have confirmed.

A spokesman for the police said: “We were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at just after 8.10am on Monday.

“We attended and sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.


“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Born in Redbridge and raised in Essex, Flint met Prodigy co-founder Liam Howlett at a rave club in the 80s.

Famed for his distinctive tattoos, colourful punk hairstyle and vibrant live performances, the star was originally The Prodigy’s dancer before providing lead vocals on their hit 1996 singles Firestarter and Breathe, both of which charted at number one.

The band went on to become one of the most popular acts of the 90s, releasing six number one albums.

Flint most recently provided vocals for multiple tracks on the band’s 2009 release Invaders Must Die, including Omen and Run With The Wolves.


He released War, a collaboration with dubstep artist Caspa in 2012, and bought and renovated the Leather Bottle pub in Essex in 2014, before ending his tenancy in 2017.

He was also a keen motorcyclist, and headed up the motorcycle team Team Traction Control which competed in the British Superbike Championship.

The Chemical Brothers’ Ed Simons led tributes to the star, writing: “So sad to hear about Keith Flint, he was always great fun to be around and very kind to Tom and I when we first started doing shows together… great man.”

BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley wrote: “Oh this is sad news. The death of Keith Flint. Whenever our paths crossed he was an absolute sweetheart. Really loved. Incredible iconic frontman with a soft centre #RIPKeithFlint.”
