Manchester United ranked 46th world best team as Barcelona take top spot

The Red Devils’worst performance in the Premier League in 30 years is the cause for their drop in the ranking. Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande and a host of teams in Europe and other continents are ranked above the Old Trafford outfit.

The drop in the ranking could make United lose the staggering £450million shirt sponsorship deal with Chevrolet as they currently sit 12th on the league table. Football World Rankings selected teams according the number of matches they won but “not every match is equally important” and “not every Fifa Confederation is equally strong” to ensure the rankings are as fair as possible. Despite that, United still sit behind some of the world’s smaller leagues but are graded as the sixth-best club in England. Barcelona, Liverpool, River Plate, Man City and Valencia occupy the top 5 spots while 13-time European champions, Real Madrid dropped to sixth. Chelsea and Arsenal occupy tenth and 11th position respectively while Juventus are good for 19th, Tottenham in 23rd and PSG are ranked 25th.
